Gunnars and Lizzie's wedding plan
Due to the fact that you have reached this page you are probably invited to our wedding.
Liz and I would like to let you know how things will work in August and what we want to do. Our Wedding will be in Germany, about 140 miles north of Berlin in the village Gunnar grew up in. The actual wedding will be on the 28th of August 2006 - which is the bank holiday Monday. But seeing as just coming to Germany for that one day seems a bit stupid we planned to make a long weekend out of it looking as followed:
- Saturday 26th.
- Everybody has to organise it themselves but we recommend that you fly on the 26th from Bristol to Berlin Schönefeld. Everybody who decides to do this will be picked up from the Berlin airport with a bus*.
- We will then reach the hotel 11-ish and all of you will get the key to their room and can either go into the bar and have a drink (or two) or go straight to bed.
- Think about food! The hotel restaurant will be open when you arrive but if you would like to eat earlier then take a packed lunch.
Journey to Germany:
- Breakfast is served in the hotel from 6 until 11 German time! Set alarms if needs be ;). Around lunchtime we will go to Güstrow. This is the nearest town to where Gunnar lives and here he went to school and lived for the first 11 years of his life. We'll have a tour round town centre as it has a few historical attractions and afterwards we will stop at a couple of German pubs.
- We will then take the bus to Gunnars home to celebrate "Polterabend" which is a German tradition. Food and drinks will be provided all evening. And at some point the bus will come and drive everybody back to the hotel.
Sunday 27th.
- At about half past twelve there will be a bus from the hotel to the church where we want to get the blessing for the wedding. The service will be held half in German and half in English (should be interesting!). The church is in Kirch Rosin, the village Gunnar grew up in and his parents are still living.
- After the ceremony we will all go back to the hotel and celebrate. There will be all sorts of different cakes when we get back: "Kaffee und Kuchen" - it is the German version of "Afternoon tea".
- After "Kaffee und Kuchen" we all will have an hour free to get changed, relax, or do whatever we want to do.
- At seven we will have all the speeches, the buffet and the party will start - open end.
Monday 28th - Wedding day
- Early in the morning a bus will take everybody who wants to go back to Britain that day to Berlin Schönefeld. Your flights will probably be at around two.
